Four athletes from Orissa have been selected to join the National camp for the Junior Commonwealth Games to be held at Pune in October. Shrabani Nanda, Amiya Kumar Mallick, Renubala Mahanta and Dharmedhar Mahanta were picked for the National camp after putting up impressive performance in the Junior Inter-Zonal Athletic Championship, which concluded at Jamshedpur yesterday.
Orissa bagged 10 gold, three silver and six bronze medals to finish fifth in the three-day Jamshedpur meet. Shrabani and Amiya bagged a double each by winning both the 100 and 200 metre sprint events in under-18 girls and boys categories respectively.
Duti Chand also claimed a sprint double in under-14 girls`` category. Dharmedhar and Renubala proved their mettle by winning gold in under-20 boys`` 100m hurdles and silver in under-18 girls`` long jump events respectively.
Orissa``s other gold medallists included Sunaram Murmu (u-14 boys`` long jump), Prabin Bhoi (u-16 boys`` javelin) and Chandan Murmu (u-16 boys`` 400m).
