Iron woman Ranu Mohanty made Orissa proud again by winning the gold medal in the 75kg weight class in the Senior National Powerlifting Championship at Rajori Minies in Durg (Chhattishgarh) today.
International Ranu lifted a total of 462.5 kg to secure the title. Her superb performance included 200 kg in deadlift, 187.5 kg in squat and 75 kg in benchpress. A trainee of Utkal Karate School here, Ranu finished with a collection of two gold (total, deadlift) and equal number of silver (squat, benchpress) medals in her weight class.
Tamil Nadu``s K L Lekha claimed the silver with a total lift of 440 kg, which included 192.5kg in squat, 87.5kg in benchpress and 160kg in deadlift.
Ranu was congratulated for the achievement by her coach Hari Prasad Pattanayak, Orissa Powerlifting Association president Kalikesh Narayan Singhdeo and secretary Chitta Ranjan Swain.
