Half-century each by skipper Das (54), Parida (75) and wicket-keeper Gopal (85 not out) enabled Orissa take a first-innings lead of 174 as they compiled a healthy total of 341, in reply to 167 by host Assam.
Wicket-keeper Gopal was at his aggressive best, hitting 12 boundaries and three sixes in his 77-ball unbeaten knock. This was also his career-best knock in first-class matches, passing the previous highest of 78.
After taking the big first-innings lead, Orissa set up the stage for a thumping victory thanks to attacking bowling by Debasis Mohanty.
