Sanjay Satpathy excelled with both bat and ball to spur Orissa to a 155-run win over Tripura on the last day of their four-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Polytechnic Institute Ground in Agartala today. This was 32nd overall win in 159 Ranji Trophy matches for Orissa and 12th win in 14 games against Tripura.
Off-spinner Satpathy bagged a total of eight wickets for 108 runs, including a career-best six for 64 in the first innings and scored a total of 47 runs, including a career-best 27 in the second innings.
Sanjay Raul returned to Orissa team in this match, after a gap of around one year and took over the captaincy from Shiv Sundar Das. During his absence in Orissa team, Raul did duty for India and India A teams, playing two ODIs and several First-Class and List-A matches with distinction.
After Raul won the toss and opted to bat againt Tripura, Orissa made a modest total of 168, thanks to a half-century by Shiv Sundar Das (53 off 77, 9x4). But the total proved to be good enough for first-innings lead as host Tripura were bowled out for 154, outwitted by off-spinners Satpathy and Raul, who picked up three wickets.
In the second innings, Orissa rode on a half-century each by Pravanjan Mullick (52, 53b, 8x4), Robin Morris (51, 156b, 3x4) and P Jayachandra (59, 133b, 7x4, 1x6) to muster a healthy total of 269 and set the stage for the victory.
Tripura lost the match as they folded for 128 in the second innings, while chasing a target of 284. Raul was most successful Orissa bowler with a haul of four for 22, while Satpathy and Shahid Khan picked up a brace each.
