Captain Sanjay Raul, Shiv Sundar Das and Pravanjan Mullick established themselves as cricket stars of Orissa, scoring a century each against Bihar in their four-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match, which ended in a draw on the last day at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. Orissa collected five points from the match by virtue of taking first-innings lead, while Bihar contended themselves with three points.
Barabati witnessed one of finest batting displays by Orissa players in the history of the game with three of the four top-order batsmen scoring a hundred each. Among the star trio, Das was top scorer with 164 (348b, 17x4), while Mullick and Raul slammed 141 (305b, 16x4) and 100 not out (186, 10x4) respectively.
Riding on the batting fireworks of Das, Mullick and Raul, Orissa declared their first innings at 534 for five. In replay, Bihar folded up for 320 and conceded a lead of 214 runs in the first innings. Leg-spinner Shahid Ali Khan was the most successful Orissa bower, pocketing five wickets in the first innings.
Victory for Orissa seemed possible as Bihar were reduced to 24 for two in the second innings. But Devjeet Chakraborty and Chandra Mohan Jha rescued the visitors, hitting an unbeaten half-century each. When the match ended in draw, Bihar were 122 for two.
