Ranjib Biswal justified himself as one of most successful captains of the Orissa cricket team by spearheading the state to an eight-wicket win over Bihar on the penultimate day of their four-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Permit Ground in Balasore today.
Half-century in the first innings, followed by a match haul of 10 wickets for 158 runs were the proofs of his absolute dominance Biswal displayed in this match. This was the 27th overall win in a total of 141 Ranji Trophy matches for Orissa and second in 41 matches against Bihar.
Opting to bat, Orissa compiled a strong total of 471, thanks to a century by Sanjay Raul (125 off 295 balls, 14x, 1x6), his first in Ranji Trophy, and a half-century each by Prasanta Mohapatra (64) and Ranjib Biswal (73). Avinash Kumar was most successful bowler for Bihar, bagging seven wickets for 111 runs.
In reply, Bihar were bowled out for 293 and conceded a lead of 178 runs. Tarun Kumar scored a century for the visitors, while Ranjib Biswal and Sushil Kumar Prasad captured five and four wickets respectively for Orissa.
Forced to follow on, Bihar rode on a century by Rariq-ur-Rehman to muster a second innings total of 237. For Orissa, Biswal once again proved to be most successful bowler, taking five wickets for 44 runs. Chasing a modest target of 60 runs for victory, Orissa romped home, losing two wickets in the process.
