A revamped Orissa registered a nine-wicket convincing win over Tripura on the penultimate day of their four-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Berhampur Stadium in Berhampur today. This was the 22nd win in 128 Ranji Trophy matches for Orissa and eighth win in nine matches against Tripura.
Three players played major roles in the win against Tripura. Leading from the front, captain Ranjib Biswal bagged a match haul of nine wickets for 107 runs, including a career-best five for 46 in the second innings. Amiya Ray and Bishnudeb Mohanty scored a half-century each in the first innings.
Opting to bat after Sourav Dasgupta won the toss, Tripura were all out for 172. In reply, Orissa compiled 284 to take a first-innings lead of 112 runs. Among Orissa batsmen, Bishnudeb Mohanty was the top scorer with a 200-ball 76 (7x4), while Amiya Ray slammed a 160-ball 72 (4x6).
In the second innings, Tripura folded up for 163, leaving a target of 52 runs for Orissa to win the match. The home team overhauled the target, losing one wicket in the process. Berhampur Stadium became the ninth Orissa venue to stage a first-class match.
Orissa made as many as five changes for this match. Sourajit Mohapatra, Asjit Jayaprakasham, Rajesh Singh, Prasanta Mohapatra and Debadutta Lenka were dropped. They were replaced by Suresh Kumar, Karun Dubey, Anil Rajput, Vemulapally Arvind and Sushanta Rath.
Suresh Kumar, Rajput, Arvind and Rath made debut for Orissa in first-class matches, while Dubey returned to the team after a gap of seven years, during which he played for Bengal.
