Fine allround performance by Ranjib Biswal helped Orissa rout Tripura by an innings and 69 runs on the penultimate day of their four-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Bhubanananda Orissa School of Engineering Ground in Cuttack, today. Biswal scored a century and bagged a total of six wickets.
This was overall 20th win in 122 Ranji Trophy matches for Odisha and sixth win in seven matches against Tripura. Put into bat by new Orissa captain Soumitra Chowdhury, Tripura were bundled out for 117. Sushil Kumar Prasad was most successful Orissa bowler, taking four wickets for 19 runs.
Orissa, in reply, amassed a healthy total of 414 to take a first-innings lead of 297 runs. Orissa top-order batsmen were among runs with Biswal hitting 107 (110b, 13x4, 1x6), while Manoj Bhatt, Soumitra Chowdhury and Debdutta Lenka notched a half-century each.
Needing 298 runs to escape innings defeat, Tripura were bowled out for 208 in the second innings. Biswal was wrecker-in-chief for Orissa, pocketing four wickets for 40 runs. Abakash Khatua and Pradyumna Chowdhury made decent first-class debut for Orissa in this match.
