Orissa opening batsman Prasanta Mohapatra made a memorable debut in First-Class cricket, hitting an unbeaten 157 in the second innings against Bihar in their four-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match, which ended in a draw on the last day at Sail Stadium in Ranchi today. However, Bihar secured 13 points by virtue of taking first-innings lead, while Orissa collected six points.
Put into bat by Bihar captain Hari Gidwani, Orissa compiled 233 with the help of 80 by captain Asjit Jayaprakasham and 49 by Rajesh Singh. In reply, Bihar rode on a majestic double hundred by wicketkeeper Syed Saba Karim to muster an imposing total of 492. Among Orissa bowlers, Harmohan Praharaj and Sourajit Mohapatra captured three wickets each, while Sushil Kumar Prasad and Jayaprakasham picked up a brace each.
After conceding a first-innings lead of 259 runs, Orissa were going strong at 343 for five in the second innings when the match ended in draw. Mohapatra carried his bat with the 329-ball unbeaten knock of 157, which featured 11 boundaries.
Jayaprakashm also scored a century in the second innings. Mohapatra and Jayaprakasham put the visitors in a strong position, stitching together 206 runs in their partnership for the fifth wicket. Orissa middle-order batsman Biswajit Nag also made his first-class debut in this match.
