Unbeaten half-century by Amiya Ray helped Orissa draw their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match against Bihar on the last day at Veer Surendra Sai Stadium in Sambalpur today. Chasing 234 for victory, Orissa struggled at 46 for three in the second innings before an unbeaten 59 by Ray saw them reach at 137 for six at stumps on the final day.
Put into bat by Orissa captain Harmohan Praharaj, Bihar rode on a century by wicket-keeper Syed Saba Karim to compile a competitive total of 277. Sourajit Mohapatra was most successful Orissa bowler, taking four wickets for 80 runs.
In reply, Orissa were bowled out for 226 to concede a lead of 51 runs. Swapan Mitra was the top scorer for Orissa with 43 runs. Bihar then declared their second innings at 182 for four. Ray took two wickets with his off-spin bowling. Orissa opening batsman Dhirendra Kumar Rout made his first-class debut in this match.
