Career-best 197 by Harmohan Praharaj and superb allround performance by Asjit Jayaprakasham powered Orissa to an innings and 115-run win over Assam on the last day of their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match at Nowgong Sports Club Ground in Nowgong today.
This was the 10th overall win in 92 Ranji Trophy matches for Orissa and ninth win in 29 matches against Assam. This was also Orissa’s third innings win over Assam. Jayaprakasham, who is in tremendous form, bagged a career-best six for 66 to help Orissa dismiss host Assam for 145 after the latter won the toss and decided to bat first.
In reply, Orissa declared at 383 for seven with Praharaj hitting 21 boundaries and two sixes in his 300-ball flamboyant knock of 197. This was his first century in first-class matches, the previous highest being 74. Praharaj was associated with a 295-run partnership for the second wicket with Jayaprakasham, who slammed 88 and passed 1000 first-class runs in the process.
Trailing by 238 runs in the first innings, Assam were bowled out for 123 in the second innings to suffer the innings defeat. Jayaprakasham claimed three wickets in the second innings to finish with a match haul of nine for 105. Swapan Mitra was another notable performer for Orissa, taking two wickets in the first innings and three in the second.
