Half-century each by BKR Patnaik and Harmohan Praharaj helped Orissa collect five points by virtue of first innings lead against host Bengal in their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match, which ended in a draw on the last day at Eastern Railway Divisional Stadium in Asansol today.
Put into bat, Orissa compiled 271, thanks to a career-best 96 by Patnaik and 74 by Praharaj. The duo put Orissa in a strong position, putting on 120 runs for the fourth-wicket stand. In reply, Bengal were bowled out for 231 with Orissa captain Paramjit Singh bagging four wickets and Somnath Sahoo and Asjit Jayaprakasham picking up three each.
After taking a 40-run first-innings lead, Orissa made 205 in the second innings and set a target of 246 for Bengal to win the match. The home team were 26 for no wicket when the match ended in draw.
