A majestic second-innings century by Sudhir Pathak helped host Orissa draw their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match on the last day at Ispat Stadium in Rourkela today. Bihar, however, collected five points by virtue of taking first innings lead, while Orissa settled with three points
Put into bat by Bihar captain Ramesh Saxena, Orissa compiled a modest total of 174 with debutant Goutam Patnaik (40) and stumper Gautam Nag (39) as the leading scorers. In reply, Bihar made 258 to gain a first-innings lead of 84 runs. Pacer Randhir Singh was most successful Orissa bowler, capturing five wickets for 65 runs.
After conceding the sizeable lead, Orissa bounced back into the match, mustering 329 in the second innings. Pathak anchored the innings with a sparkling 176, while captain Paramjit Singh contributed an unbeaten 43.
This was the first first-class century for Pathak, bettering his previous best of 77. Chasing 246 for victory, Bihar reached 64 for one in their second innings before the match ended in draw.
