Bihar defeated host Orissa by 119 runs on the last day their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Baripada Stadium in Baripada today. This was Bihar’s 19th win in 23 Ranji Trophy matches against Orissa.
Electing to bat, Bihar rode on a half-century each by Sashi Nair and captain Daljit Singh to declare their first-innings at 320 for eight. Vinod Gupta was most successful Orissa bowler, taking four wickets for 81 runs.
In reply, Orissa were all out for 213. Among leading scorers, Vinod Gupta hit 55, while Rabi Narayan Panda contributed 46. After taking a first-innings lead of 107 runs, Bihar declared their second innings at 127 for nine to set up a target of 235 for Orissa to win the match.
Sabir Hussain did maximum damage to the Bihar second innings, bagging five wickets for 45 runs. But the home team made meek surrender in the second innings, getting all out for 115. Orissa players Jeemuta Mohanty and Gopi Srichandan made first-class debut in this match.
