Formidable Bengal maintained their winning run against Orissa in Ranji Trophy when they beat the home team by seven wickets on the last day of an East Zone match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. This was Bengal’s 18th win in 19 Ranji Trophy matches against Orissa.
Put into bat, Orissa made 166, thanks to an unbeaten 45 by Babu R Rao. In reply, Bengal compiled 216 to take a first-innings lead of 50 runs. In the second innings, Orissa were bowled out for 121. Subrata Guha ran through the Orissa second innings, capturing six wickets for 50 runs.
Chasing 72 runs for victory, Bengal romped home comfortably, losing three wickets in the second innings. Guha completed 200 first-class wickets in this match, while Orissa captain N N Swamy reached 100 wickets in Ranji Trophy.
