Unbeaten double hundred by Anand Shukla powered Bihar to an innings and 77-run win over Orissa on the last day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. This Bihar’s ninth win, including two by an innings in 13 Ranji Trophy matches against Orissa.
The majestic unbaten knock of 242 by Shukla enabled Bihar take a first-innings lead of 213 runs as they declared at 406 for four, in reply to a respectable total of 193 by Orissa, who were put into bat by Bihar captain Rajendranath Sanyal. Besided the double ton by Shukla, one half-century each was scored by Sanyal and K Mitter.
Needing 214 to avoid innings defeat, Orissa were bowled out for 136 in the second innings. Needless to say that batting failure led to the defeat for the home team. Among Orissa batsmen, captain Bisuddhananda Jena was the only one who was able to score a half-century.
