Unbeaten double hundred and hundred by captain Pankaj Roy and Prakash Chandra Poddar respectively enabled Bengal register a 10-wicket win over Orissa on the last day of their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. This was Bengals 11th win in as many Ranji Trophy matches against Orissa.
Orissa, however, denied Bengal yet another innings victory, thanks to second-innings half-century by Mandan Mohan Mohanty and substantial contributions by captain L I Parija, BS Alva, D Mahapatra and SS Patnaik.
In reply to a paltry total of 114 by Orissa, Bengal took a first-innings lead of 255 runs by declaring at 369 for one. Orissa escaped innings defeat by making 266 in the second innings. Needing 12 runs for victory, Bengal romped home without losing any wicket. D Mahapatra made his first-class debut for Orissa.
