Riding on a match haul of eight wickets for 81 and first-innings half-century by captain Sasanka Sekhar Patnaik and B Sridhar Alva, Orissa held Bihar to a draw in their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match, which ended at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today.
But the outcome proved to be a morale victory for Orissa as they took first-innings lead for the first time in a Ranji Trophy match against Bihar. Pacer Satpathy bagged six wickets for 52 runs to help Orissa restrict Bihar to 208 in the first innings.
In reply, the home team compiled 252 to take a lead of 44 runs. Among Orissa batsmen, Patnaik top scored with an unbeaten 75, while Alva slammed 72. In the second innings, Bihar declared at 141 for five, while Orissa replied with 39 for two. Three players _ Gopal Das, B K Sikdar and N Manjay Shetty _ made their first-class debut for Odisha.
