After conceding a nine-run first-innings lead, Bihar fought back to beat Orissa by eight wickets on the last day of their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match at Gandhi Maidan in Patna today. Bihar collected eight points for their dramatic win, while Orissa drew blank.
Batting first, Orissa collapsed for a paltry total of 58. But the home team failed to capitalize on the advantage as they themselves were bundled out for 49. NN Swamy and captain Nimal C Padhi bagged six and four wickets for Orissa.
The visitors also suffered similar batting collapse in the second innings by getting skittled out for 35. Needing 46 runs for victory, Bihar romped home comfortably, losing two wickets in the process.
As many as three players made first-class debut in this match for Orissa. They were Haji Amin, AK Adhikari and B Rajya. Only three batsmen could reach double-digit contributions for Orissa.
