Bihar drubbed Orissa by an innings and 130 runs on the second day of their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. The thumping win fetched Bihar nine points, while host Orissa drew blank.
Orissa started the match on a disastrous note by getting skittled out for 76 after chosing to bat. In reply, a century by wicket-keeper Daljit Singh and a half-century by T Dutta enabled Bihar to declare at 273 for nine. Needing 198 runs to avoid innings defeat, Orissa caved in for 67 in their second innings.
Bimal Krishna Bose destroyed the Orissa batting line-up by bagging 11 wickets for 63 runs in the lop-sided match. The home team got some positives from the match with Lalat Indu Parija and N N Swamy capturing four and three wickets respectively. Another notable feature of the match was that Parija regained the captainship of the Orissa team, replacing Banabasi Patnaik.
