Orissa suffered innings and 145-run defeat at the hands of Bengal in their three-day East Zone Ranji Trophy match, held at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack from 18 to 20 December, 1955. Bengal captain Punya Brata Datta was the star of the match, scoring a century.
In reply to a first-innings total of 329 for four declared by Bengal, Orissa were bowled out for 58 to concede a lead of 271 runs. Following on, the home team folded up for 126 in the second innings.
New wicket-keeper T Ram Sastri and MS Ananthaswamy Rao provided some positives for Orissa, scoring 39 and 32 runs respectively in the second innings. Among Orissa players, T Ram Sastri, Nimal C Padhi and S K Prasad made their first-class debut in this match.
