Odisha bowed out from the Vijay Merchant Trophy U-16 Cricket Tournament after conceding first-innings lead against Punjab in their four-day pre-quarterfinal match, which ended in a draw at Railway Cricket Ground in Rajkot today.
Put into bat by Punjab captain Manroop Singh, Odisha made a competitive total of 251, thanks to a century by Tanay Kumar Biswal (116) and a half-century by opener Sudarshan Swain (65).
In reply, Punjab rode on a double hundred by Uday Saharan (217) and a century each by Mayank Gupta (126) and Manroop Singh (105) to muster a huge total of 597. Ansuman Bej was the most successful Odisha bowler, bagging five wickets for 148 runs.
After conceding a first-innings lead of 346 runs, Odisha were 87 for three in their second innings at stumps on the final day. The highlight of the second innings was an unbeaten 53 by Saideep Mohapatra.
