Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar College emerged champs in the Utkal University Inter-College Women Basketball Tournament, beating Deba Ray Nayapalli College by 19-12 points in the all-Bhubaneswar final here at Biju Patnaik Sports Complex, Vani Vihar today.
Earlier at the league stage, BJB College faced stiff fight against Kendrapara College before winning 8-7, while DR Nayapalli College made shortwork of Regional Institute of Education, Bhubaneswar 27-3.
Organised by Utkal University Sports Council (UUSC), the tournament was inaugurated by Utkal University PG Council Chairperson Prof Sabita Acharya. UUSC Director Prof Maheswar Sahoo handed over the trophy at the closing ceremony.
PG Athletic Club vice-president Dr Kirti Ranjan Mallick, UUSC Physical Education Officer Ambika Prasat Ray, tournament coordinator Dr Prabir Kumar Mohanty, selectors Rajendra Prasad Pani and Smarita Samantaray were present on the occasion.
