India won the bronze medal in the Asia Rugby U-20 Women Sevens Series, which was held at the Chao Anou Vong Stadium in Vientiane, Laos on 24 and 25 August, 2019. The 12-member Indian team, featuring five from Odisha finished third with two wins and two defeats.
Led by Odisha player Sumitra Nayak, India started their campaign on a nightmarish note, losing to Hong Kong 0-52 and to Thailand 5-19 in Pool C. But without being demoralized, the team fought back to win their last two matches against Laos 39-0 and Singapore 15-0.
Other four Odisha players in the Indian team were: Ranjani Sabar, Soni Mandangi, Parbati Kisku and Lija Sardar. All five Odisha players belong to Bhubaneswar-based Kallinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS).
