Host India made a clean sweep of all seven gold medals in the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships which concluded at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here today. India also finished at the top of the medal tally with a total of 15 medals, which also featured four silver and as many bronze.
Ayhika Mukherjee scripted history as she became the first Indian to win the women’s singles gold, defeating compatriot Madhurika Patkar 4-0 in the lop-sided final. Harmeet Desai won the men’s singles gold when he fought back from 0-2 down to beat top seed G Sathiyan in the thrilling all-India final 4-3.
