Host Odisha girl Simran Neha Ekka bagged a double by winning both singles and doubles titles in the AITA-OTA Championship Series U-16 Tennis Tournament, which concluded at Kalinga Stadium Tennis Complex here today.
Local lass Simran captured the singles crown, defeating Athmika C Sreenivas of Karnataka in the final 6-4, 6-4. In the doubles final, Simarn and her partner Aditi Pradhan (Jharkhand) beat Harshini Viswanadh (AP) and partner Oindrila Sen (WB) 6-1, 6-2.
Yashraj Nayak (Odisha) and Sahil Amin (Jharkhand) were declared joint champions in boys singles event as the final match between the two could not take place due to cyclonic weather.
Earlier, Sahil Amin (Jharkhand) and Arya Bhattacharya (West Bengal) were crowned boys doubles champions after getting the better of Odisha duo of D Aryan Swamy and Debasis Sahoo 6-2, 7-5 in the summit clash.
Title winners and runners-up became richer by 25 and 20 AITA ranking points respectively. A total of 74 players from eight states participated in the tournament, which was organised by Odisha Tennis Association (OTA), under the aegis of All India Tennis Association (AITA).
Tournament director B K Das gave away the trophies at the presentation ceremony. Tournament Referee Jatin Batsya and OTA Manager Prakash Pattnaik were present on the occasion.
