Odisha ace Ansu Kumar Bhuyan continued his superb form by winning the singles title in the Gurukul-AITA-OTA Men’s 50K Tennis Tournament at Gurukul Resort Tennis Complex, Mendhasal, near here today.
Local favourite and top seed Bhuyan beat fifth seed Sheikh Mohammed Iftikhar of Assam in the final 6-2, 6-4. A total of 32 players from nine states participated in this tournament.
Among other Odisha players, Amrutjay Mohanty reached singles semifinals before losing to statemate Bhuyan. However, other leading Odisha player and second seed Chinmay Pradhan crashed out in quarterfinals, losing to eventual runner-up Sheikh Mohammed Iftikhar.
The doubles title was captured by Andhra-Assam pair of Umair Shaik and Sheikh Mohammed Iftikhar, who beat Odisha duo Satirtha Patnaik and Asutosh Das in the final 0-6, 6-4 (10-4).
