A 23-member Odisha state squad, featuring 12 boys and 11 girls, bagged a total of seven medals in the 18th Sub-junior National Wushu Championship, held at Phagwara, Punjab from January 22 to 27, 2019. The medals include one silver and six bronze.
Ashutosh Maharana of Khurda was most successful Odisha competitor, capturing silver medal in boys gunshu and bronze in daoshu events. Koraput boy Chandan Kumar Dakua and Sundargarh lad Aditya Jena secured one bronze each in daoshu and jianshu events respectively.
Among Odisha girls, Sonali Barik, Kritika Paseri and Jiya Bajoria won one bronze medal each in nandao, nangun and daoshu categories respectively. All seven medals came in toulu competition. Odisha squad was accompanied by coaches Jitendra Dash and Dalmu Khadangkel; manager Sudhanshu Panda and Anuradha Dora; physio Sujan Kumar Rath and judges Pradyumna Behera and Pruthiraj Harichandan. Wushu Association of Odisha president Sudhanshu Shekhar Harichandan congratulated the medal winners of the state.
