Hockey MWC: Australia, England enter semifinals

Reigning world champions Australia and World No 7 England became the first two teams to reach semifinals of the 14th Hockey Men’s World Cup, posting contrasting wins in respective quarterfinal matches here at Kalinga Stadium Hockey Complex today. England came from behind to stun Olympic champions 3-2, while Australia outplayed France 3-0.

After dependable drag-flick specialist Gonzalo Peillat gave Argentina the lead, converting a penalty corner in the 17th minute, England restored parity through a 27th-minute field goal by their most experienced player Barry Middleton (430 caps). Accelerating their attack, England took the lead when Will Calnan scored a field goal in the 45th minute.
