Host Odisha secured three points by virtue of taking first-innings lead against Assam in their three-day Vijay Merchant Trophy U-16 East Zone league match, which ended in a draw here at Bidanasi Ground today. Assam settled with one point.
Odisha took a 57-run first-innings lead by making 215, in reply to 158 by Assam who chose to bat after winning the toss. The visitors declared their second innings at 261 for five, there by setting a target of 205 for the home team to win the match.
Odisha were 41 for no loss in the second innings when the match ended as a draw on the final day. The highlight of the match was a 228-ball 90 by Odisha opening batsman Biswajit Patra, who hit 14 boundaries. Odisha will play their fourth match against Bihar here from November 12 to 14.
