Chess Summit: India maintain slender lead

Hosts India maintained one-point lead against China after completion of third round of the 3rd Bilateral Chess Summit here at International Chess Hall in KiiT University today. India now have 6.5 points against 5.5 by China.

India took the lead in the in the second round, beating China 2.5-1.5 earlier in the day.  GM Karthikeyan Murali defeated Lu Shanglei on the top board to give India the crucial lead. Other three games of the round ended in draws.

Later in the day, China rallied to hold India to 2-2 draw in the third round. After GM Aravindh Chitahmbaram gave India the lead, beating GM Xu Xiangyu on the second board, China restored parity with GM Xu Yinglun getting the better of GM Karthikeyan Murali on the fourth board. On the top and third board, Indian GMs Narayanan Srinath and Aryan Chopra split point against respective opponents.

RESULTS:

Round-2: India beat China 2.5-1.5
Board-1: GM Karthikeyan Murali (w) beat GM Lu Shanglei
Board-2: GM Narayanan Srinath drew with GM Xu Xiangyu (w)
Board-3: GM Aravindh Chithambaram (w) drew with GM Bai Jinshi
Board-4:  GM Aryan Chopra drew with GM Xu Yinglun (w)

Round-3: India drew with China 2-2
Board-1: GM Narayanan Srinath (w) drew with GM Lu Shanglei
Board-2: GM Aravindh Chitahmbaram beat GM Xu Xiangyu (w)
Board-3: GM Aryan Chopra (w) drew with GM Bai Jinshi
Board-4: GM Karthikeyan Murali lost to GM Xu Yinglun (w)
