A stroke-filled century by Swastik Samal and his 108-run partnership for the second wicket with Nitin Samantaray went in vain as Odisha lost to Jammu & Kashmir by 85 runs in their Elite Group-C league match of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy U-19 One-Day Limited-Overs Tournament at Jaipuria Vidhyalaya Ground in Jaipur today.
This was the fourth defeat in five matches for Odisha, who will next meet Goa at K L Saini Stadium in Jaipur on October 17. Chasing a stiff target of 277 against Jammu & Kashmir, Odisha were bowled out for 191. Opening batsman Samal slammed 122 (128b, 19x4, 1x6), while Samantaray scored 40 (36b, 6x4, 1x6).
Earlier opting to bat, Jammu & Kashmir rode on a century by Qamran Iqbal and a half-century by Jiyaad Magrey to muster a total of 276 for six. Suman Kumar Das was most successful Odisha bowler, bagging three wickets for 37 runs.
