Odisha quartet of Ritu Kaudi, Sonali Swain, Deepika Xess and Jharana Hasti made the state proud by securing gold medal in women’s coxless four event of the Asian Junior Rowing Championship at Chungju in South Korea today. This was the maiden international medal for the four rowers.
All four rowers belong to SAI Water Sports Centre, Jagatpur, Cuttack and are desciples of SAI coach and Olympian PT Paulose. Ritu, Deepika and Jharana are tribal girls and hail from Sundargarh district. Sonali is from Jagatpur.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik them on Twitter. ``Congratulations to our girls Ritu Kaudi, Sonali Swain, Deepika Xess & Jharna Hasti for winning Gold at Asian Junior Rowing Championship in Korea. Delighted that all four are from SAI centre at Jagatpur in Odisha,’’ tweeted the Chief Minister.
As many as five rowers from Odisha represented India in this championship. Reshma Kumari Minz is the fifth from the state. The five-day Asian Junior Championship would conclude tomorrow.
