Odisha bagged two medals on the second day of the 58th National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championship at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati today. Both the medals came in women’s 200 metre sprint with Olympians Dutee Chand winning silver and Srabani Nanda settling with bronze.
In the finals, Dutee clocked 23.41 seconds and Srabani 23.87. Assam sprinter Hima Das beat both Dutee and Srabani to take the gold with a timing of 23.10 seconds. Both Hima and Dutee qualified for the ensuing Jakarta Asian Games, but Srabani failed.
With two medals today, the total for Odisha went up to three. Earlier on the opening day, Jauna Murmu won the women’s 400 hurdles gold medal with New Meet Record, clocking 57.02 seconds. She erased the previous meet record of 57.21 seconds, set by Anu Raghavan at Guntur last year. Jauna also qualified for the Asian Games.
Kerala`s Jinson Johnson stole the show on the second day as he broke the 42-year-old National Record in the men`s 800 metre event with a timing of 1:45.65. The previous National Record of 1:45.77 was set by Sriram Singh at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.
