Odisha teenager Soundarya Pradhan won the bronze medal in the 13th National `A’ Chess Championship for Visually Impaired, which concluded at Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai yesterday. In the 14-player and 13-round competition, Soundarya finished third with nine points. He won six games, drew six and lost one to.
Soundarya’s statemate Subhendu Kumar Patra and elder brother Prachurya Pradhan finished fifth and sixth respectively. Kishan Gangolli of Karnataka won the title for the fifth time, logging 10.5 points, while Ashvin K Makwana (Gujarat) settled as runner-up with 9.5 points. Gangolli took home the first prize of Rs 51,000, while Makwana and Soudarya received Rs 31,000 and Rs 21,000 respectively.
