Tripura secured three points by virtue of taking first-innings lead against host Odisha in their three-day Vijay Merchant Trophy U-16 East Zone league match, which ended in draw at Nimpur Ground here today. Odisha settled with one point.
After taking a 70-run lead in the first innings, Tripura were 110 for two in the second at stumps on the final day. Earlier, in reply to a first-innings total of 347 by Tripura, Odisha were all out for 277 after resuming at the overnight score of were 173 for five. Among Odisha batsmen, Binayak Mohanty and Sushil Barik missed respective half-century by one run.
The highlight of the Tripura first innings was a sparkling knock of 172 by Sridam Paul, who compiled 133 runs for the third wicket with Tanmoy Das. Sushil Barik was most successful bowler for for Odisha, taking four wickets for 82 runs.
This was Odisha’s third match in the five-team East Zone league and they are now languishing at the fourth position with four points in their account. Odisha will play their last league match against Assam at Nurul Amin Stadium in Nagaon from December 25 to 27.
