Men’s HWL: Win-less India suffer second defeat

Host India’s lack-lustre performance continued in the Men’s Hockey World League Finals as they suffered their second successive defeat by going down to Germany 0-2 in their last Pool-B match here at Kalinga Hockey Stadium today. With this defeat Asia Cup champions India finished fourth and last in their pool with one point in the kitty.

On the other hand, today’s win, their second in three matches, put Germany at the top of the pool table with seven points. Captain Martin Haner and Mats Grambusch scored the two goals for Germany. The latter was adjudged the man of the match and he received the prize from Puri Gajapati Maharaj Dibyasingha Deb.

Defending champions Australia were hald to a 2-2 draw by England in another Pool-B match earlier in the day. England finished second in the pool with four points, while Australia occupied the third position with three points. England’s Barry Middleton achieved his 400th senior international appearance in this match.
