Nimapara College emerged champions in the Utkal University Inter-College Men’s Volleyball Tournament, defeating U N College, Adaspur in the final by 3-0 sets here at Vani Vihar today. Earlier in the semifinals, Nimapara College beat UNS College, Mugupal 3-2, while UN College got the better of Kendrapara Evening College 3-2.
Altogether 622 players from 68 colleges participated in the tournament, which was organised by Utkal University Sports Council (UUSC). The tournament started with zonal competition at Salepur College, Nayagarh College and Vani Vihar earlier on September 11. The champion and runners-up teams from each zone qualified for the inter-zonal tournament, which was held at Vani Vihar.
UUSC Director Prof Kabir Mohan Sethi inaugurated the tournament, while Utkal Universithy Vice-Changellor Prof Soumya Ranjan Pattnaik handed over the trophy in the closing ceremony. Bhubaneswar Government College of Physical Education Principal Dr Man Mohan Rout, UUSC Physical Education Officer Ambika Prasad Ray and Pramod Kumar Nayak were present on the occasion.
