Five from Odisha represent India in women’s hockey test series

As many as five players from Odisha represented India Senior Women’s team in a five-match Test series against New Zealand, which was held in New Zealand from May 14 to 20, 2017. The tour turned out to be a disappointing one as India lost the series 0-5.

The 20-member Indian team was be captained by striker Rani while Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam shouldered duties of vice-captain. The five Odisha players were: Deep Grace Ekka, Sunita Lakra, Namita Toppo, Lilima Minz and Anupa Barla. Sunita Lakra completed 100 international caps in the third of the series on May 17.

Defenders: Deep Grace Ekka, Udita, Sunita Lakra, Gurjit Kaur, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam (Vice-captain), Namita Toppo.
Mid-fielders: Ritu Rani, Lilima Minz, Navjot Kaur, Monika, Renuka Yadav, Nikki Pradhan, Reena Khokar.
Forwards: Rani (Captain), Vandana Katariya, Preeti Dubey, Sonika, Anupa Barla.

May 14 (First Test): New Zealand beat India 4-1
May 16 (Second Test): New Zealand beat India 8-2
May 17 (Third Test): New Zealand beat India 3-2
May 19 (Fourth Test): New Zealand beat India 3-0
May 20 (Fifth Test): New Zealand beat India 6-2
