Baivab emerges Balasore Open chess champion

Baivab Mishra emerged champion in the 1st Choudhury Prabir Kumar Das Memorial All-Odisha Balasore Open Chess Tournament, which was held at Chemist Bhawan, Kalidaspur, Balasore from January 21 to 23, 2017.

Puri lad Baivab scored eight points out of a possible nine to take home the top prize of Rs 12,000. Rajendra Kumar Sahu of Bhubaneswar and Lochan Kumar Das of Puri received Rs 8,000 and Rs 5,000, finishing second and third respectively.

A total of 71 players from 10 districts participated in the tournament, which was organised by Balasore District Chess Association (BDCA) in collaboration with Balasore District Druggist & Chemist Association (BDDCA).

The trophies and cash prizes were handed over by Utkal Druggist & Chemist Association general secretary Prashanta Kumar Jena and BDDCA general secretary Umakanta Mohapatra in the presence of BDCA president Debasis Chakrabarty, secretary Manoranjan Panda and chief arbiter Suresh Chandra Sahoo.
