Odisha football captain Kedar Singh is dead

Football in Odisha suffered a huge blow as state senior men’s team captain Kedar Nath Singh passed away at the age of 24 today. A towering defender and humble young person, Kedar met with a serious injury while playing a tournament at Sarankul in Nayagarh district and breathed his last at Vivekananda Hospital here this morning at 6.10 AM.

Office-bearers of Football Association of Odisha (FAO) expressed deep condolence on the sad and sudden demise of Kedar, who had the distinction of representing the state team in National championship many times. He also led Odisha in Santosh Trophy Tournament for the year 2015- 16.

Kedar, who hails from Sundargarh district, also represented Yazdani Club-73 of Bhubaneswar and Sunrise Club of Cuttack. A pal of gloom descended on twin city Cuttack and Bhubaneswar on the sad demise of the renowned football. Club-73 president Laitendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra, former India footballer R P Singh, fellow players of and football lovers paid floral tributes to Kedar here.
