Subrata Bhattacharya appointed Odisha chief football coach

Football Association of Odisha (FAO) has appointed former India defender and AFC-A license-holding coach Subrata Bhattacharya (West Bengal) as the chief coach of Odisha state senior men football team for the Santosh Trophy Tournament, schedule to be held later this year.

Bhattacharya, 63, played for India in the 1984 Asian Cup and spent 17 years with Mogun Bagan as a footballer. He has also played for and managed Mohun Bagan Club in the past. He won Indian National Football League for two times as a coach of Mohun Bagan.

Bhattacharya also managed many more leading football clubs of the country including East Bengal, Tollygunge Agragami, Vasco Sports Club, Mumbai FC, Southern Samity, Prayag United as a coach. He was conferred with the Arjuna Award in 1989.

FAO has also appointed three assistant coaches and one goalkeeping coach. The assistant coaches are: Surojeet Ghosh of SAI Training Centre (Cuttack), Suraj Thappa of NALCO and Saroj Das of State Bank of India. Anindya Deb of East Coast Railway is the goalkeeping coach.
