Odisha and Bengal collected one points each in their drawn two-day Pool-A league match of the 6th All-India U-19 Invitation Cricket Tournament for Dhruv Pandove Trophy at Sector-16 Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh today. Teams shared points as the first innings of both the teams could not be completed.
Electing to bat, Odisha compiled a healthy total of 310 for nine, thanks to a century each by Akash Nayak and captain Saurabh Rawat. In reply, Bengal were 202 for seven when the match ended in draw. But on the basis of individual performance, Odisha outshone their opponents.
Odisha skipper Rawat was adjudged man of the match, hitting a 215-ball 120 with the help of 13 boundaries and one six. Akash Nayak formed a formidable batting combination with Rawat with his impressive knock of 120 (274b, 13x4, 1x6). When Odisha were in trouble, losing three wickets for 34 runs, Akash and Saurabh put on a solid partnership of 223 runs for fourth wickets to turn the table on Bengal.
New-ball bowler Sunil Rout was another player to shine in the match, bagging four wickets for 53 runs. The match started after lunch due to wet outfield and the proceeding was stopped three minutes before tea due to rain.
Altogether eight teams are participating in this tournament. Teams have been placed in two pools and after completion of pool league matches, the top team from each pool will qualify for the final. Odisha have been placed in Pool A along with Bengal, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. Odisha will next meet host Punjab on September 3 and 4.
