Odisha ended their campaign in the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Cricket Tournament, gaining three points by virtue of taking a first-innings lead of 197 runs in their third and last Group-A league match, which ended in a draw against Tripura at Green Sports Village in Bengaluru today. Odisha, thus, finished their group engagements with seven points from three matches. Host Karnataka State Cricket Association XI topped the group with 13 points and qualified for the semifinals.
Electing to bat against Tripura, Odisha rode on a sparkling knock of 151 by Sandip Pattanaik and a half-century each by Abinash Saha, Saurabh Rawat and Bikash Rout to compile a huge total of 540. Pattanaik, who hit 25 boundaries and one six in his 267-ball knock, gave Odisha a solid foundation with a 205-run alliance for the opening wicket with Saha, who scored a 192-ball 86, which included nine hits to the rope.
Wicket-keeper Rawat hit a 133-ball 82 (5x4, 1x6), while Rout contributed a quick-fire unbeaten 55 (56b, 7x4). Rawat and Rout compounded the agony for Tripura bowlers, putting together 92 runs for the ninth wicket. In reply, Tripura followed on despite mustering a respectable total of 343. In their second innings, Tripura were struggling at 143 for seven when the match ended in draw. Among the Odisha bowlers, Govind Poddar was most successful with a match haul of eight wickets for 94 runs.
