Parida triumphs in UCMM Chess Tournament

Seasoned campaigner and local favourite Manas Ranjan Parida emerged champion in the 4th Umesh Chandra Mishra Memorial Open Chess Tournament, garnering 7.5 points out of a possible nine here at Hotel Annapurna, IRC Village today.

Prakash Chandra Sahoo (Puri) settled as runner-up with 7.5 points. As many as 88 players from 12 districts participated in the three-day tournament, which was organized by Chess Association of Odisha (CAO).

Eminent singer Prafulla Kar graced the closing function as chief guest and gave away the prizes. Orissa State Chess Association vice-president Arati Bijoy Mohanty, CAO secretary Sabita Tripathy and tournament arbiter Debasis Panigrahi were present on the occasion.
