Dipsan to lead Junior India men hockey team

Odisha defender Dipsan Tirkey will lead Junior India men hockey team in the EurAsia Cup in Russia and a six-match tour of England in July this year. The 18-member Junior India team, announced by Hockey India today, also included another player from Odisha _ defender Nilam Sanjeep Xess.

The EurAsia Cup, featuring four teams, will be played at Yekaterinburg, Russia, on July 9 and 10. Other three teams in the fray are: Dinamo Stroitel, Russian Team 1 and Russian Team 2. Dinamo Stroitel made their appearance in the European Hockey League in the 2015-16 season after a gap of 34 years.

The Junior India team will undertake the tour with hopes of gaining experience and in preparation for the Junior World Cup in Lucknow, later this year. The same team will subsequently travel to England to take on the England and Scotland teams in six matches from July 22 to August 1.

Mid-fielders: Nilkanta Sharma, Sumit, Santa Singh, Manpreet, Shamsher Singh. Forwards: Gurjant Singh, Ajay Yadav, Parvinder Singh, Simranjeet Singh, Ajit Kumar Pandey.
