Priansh Das (Jajpur) and Ankita Sahoo (Cuttack) won the open and girls titles respectively in the State Under-7 Chess Championship, which was organised by Triple C Chess Club, under the aegis of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA) and Cuttack District Chess Association (CDCA) here at Sailabala Womens’ College from May 18 to 20, 2016.
In the seven-round open competition, defending champion Priansh garnered full seven points to retain the title, while his twin-brother Sriansh finished runner-up with 5.5 points. Ankita topped the table in the six-round girls section with full six points, while Arushi Srichandan (Khordha) settled as runner-up with five points.
Altogether 76 youngsters, including 28 girls participated in the three-day tournament. Cuttack ADMP Prabodh Kumar Rout handed over the trophies in the presence of CDCA secretary Ranjan Mohanty, Triple C Chess Club president Kamalakanta Bisoi, secretary Biranchi Narayan Sahoo and chief arbiter Tapas Mohanty.
