It was double delight for Odisha as Hockey Odisha retained the title in the Hockey India 6th Junior Men National Championship (Division-A), while Hockey Gangpur-Odisha finished runners-up today. In the lop-sided final at Raipur in Chhattisgarh, Hockey Odisha hammered Hockey Gangpur-Odisha 5-1.
Earlier in the semifinals, defending champions Hockey Odisha outscored Hockey Jharkhand 7-3, while Hockey Gangpur-Odisha came from behind to edge out Sports Authority of India 3-2. Hockey Odisha qualified for the semifinals, winning all three of their Pool-A matches against Manipur Hockey (3-0), Hockey Karnataka (5-0) and Bengal Hockey Association (3-2).
Last year’s Junior National (Division-B) champions Hockey Gangpur-Odisha reached the last-four stage with two wins and a draw in Pool B. They thrashed Uttar Pradesh Hockey 5-2 and Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 6-3, but were held to 4-4 draw by Sports Authority of India.
