Rising Student (Cuttack) emerged champions in the SCAN Cup Silver Jubilee Cricket Tournament, beating host Sports & Cultural Association (SCAN) by 11 runs in the rain-marred final at Unit-II Girls High School Ground here today. Chasing a revised target of 82 runs in 9 overs, SCAN managed to score 70 for three in nine overs.
The champion team received the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 30,000, while the runner-up team became richer by Rs 20,000. Bikash Pati took the individual prizes as man of the final and best batsman. His teammate Abhisek Yadav pocketed the best bowler prize, while SCAN allrounder Manoj Nayak received man of the tournament prize.
State BJP leader Pruthivraj Harichandan handed over the trophy in the presence of SCAN secretary Prabodh Das. Pradyumna Choudhary, the first Ranji Trophy player of SCAN, and State women cricket team coach Rasmita Mohanty were felicitated at the closing function. Altogether eight club sides of twin city Cuttack and Bhubaneswar participated in the T20 tournament, which commenced on May 1.
RESULTS:
May 4 (QF): Union Sporting 113/10 in 20 overs (Niranjan Behera 38, Alok Ranjan Routray 21; Bishal Kar and S Routray 2 wkts each) lost to Rameswar Sporting 117/3 in 17.1 overs (Priyabrat Pradhan 42*, Sarthak Priyadarshi 37; Prasant Rana 3 wkts) by 7 wkts. PoM: Priyabrat Pradhan.
May 5 (1st Semifinal): Rising Student 181/5 in 20 overs (Biplab Samantray 71, Bikash Pati 47, Abhishek Yadav 24; Alok Mangaraj 2/26) beat Rameswar Sporting 142/4 in 20 overs (Priyatosh Paramanik 45*, Priyabrata Pradhan 42*, Devraj Kar 21) by 39 runs. PoM: Biplab Samantray.
May 6 (2nd Semifinal): Paramount Sporting 167/7 in 20 overs (Kartik Biswal 33, Ayush Raj Choudhury 29, Debasis Samantaray 28, Lalit Mohan Ojha 26, Avay Mallick 23; BBCC Mahapatra 2/21, Ramachandra Mohanty 2/24, Manoj Nayak 2/27) lost to SCAN 170/4 in 18.4 overs (Manoj Nayak 43*, BBCC Mahapatra 39, Sangeet Mohanty 34; Kartik Biswal 2/37) by 6 wkts. PoM: Manoj Nayak.
May 8 (Final): Rising Student 179/7 in 20 overs (Bikash Pati 52 runs, Sujit Lenka 27, Aravinda Singh 25; Manoj Nayak 2/20, Rabindra Nayak 2/32) beat SCAN 70/3 in 9 overs (BBCC Mohapatra 28) by 11 runs via better run rate.
