Odisha Govt announces cash prizes for SAG medalists

Odisha Government today announced cash prizes for state sportsperson for their participation and medal-winning achievements in the 12th South Asian Games (SAG), held at Guwahati and Shillong from February 5 to 17.

According to the announcement made by Sports Minister Sudam Marndi, goldl, silver and bronze medalists in individual events will get Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively. In team events, gold, silver and bronze medalists will be given Rs 25,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively.

Sportspersons, who just participated in the SAF Games will be getting Rs 15,000 each for individual events and Rs 7,500 each for team events. Woman sprinter Srabani Nanda will be the highest beneficiary in this scheme as she stands to receive a total of Rs 1.10 lakh for winning one gold and two silver medals.

Woman hurdler Januna Murmu, who secured gold medals in 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay, will be richer by Rs 75,000. Woman sprinter Dutee Chand will receive a total of Rs 90,000 for her contribution of two silver and one bronze medals.

Gold medal winning woman weightlifter Saraswati Rout will get Rs 50,000, while woman kho-kho player Mandakini Majhi and woman footballers Sasmita Malik, Supriya Routray, Manisha Panna and Pyari Xaxa will pocket Rs 25,000 each. Male hockey player Nilam Sanjeep Xess will be given Rs 20,000.
